The inaugural forum was held in La Jolla, California from August 12–16, 2019. Its purpose was to convene an independent and sustaining community of thought leaders and policy experts to foster creative thinking on how to advance U.S.-China relations and bridge the growing gap between Washington, D.C. and Beijing, China. The Forum was by invitation only. Chatham House rules were applied at the forum to ensure maximum candor from all participants.
