Stephen Hadley is a principal of Rice, Hadley, Gates & Manuel LLC (RHGM), an international strategic consulting firm founded with Condoleezza Rice, Robert Gates and Anja Manuel.He is also the former Board Chair of the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) and an Executive Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Council.

Hadley served for four years as the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs (2005-2009) and was the Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor, serving under then National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice (2001-2005). He had previously served on the National Security Council staff and in the Defense Department including as Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Policy (1989-1993). During his professional career, Hadley has served on a number of corporate and advisory boards, including: the National Security Advisory Panel to the Director of Central Intelligence, the Department of Defense Policy Board and the State Department’s Foreign Affairs policy Board. He is a member of the Aspen Strategy Group.

Susan Shirk is founding chair of the 21st Century China Center and research professor at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy. Shirk’s book, “China: Fragile Superpower” helped frame the policy debate on China in the U.S. and other countries. Other books include “The Political Logic of Economic Reform in China”, “Competitive Comrades”, and “Changing Media, Changing China”. Her articles have appeared in leading academic publications in political science, international relations, and China studies. She previously served as deputy assistant secretary of state (1997-2000), responsible for U.S. policy toward China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Mongolia. She is director emeritus of the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation and founded the Northeast Asia Cooperation Dialogue, an unofficial forum for discussion of security issues. Her latest book, “Overreach: How China Derailed its Peaceful Rise”, received the 2023 Lionel Gelber Prize.

Ambassador Charlene Barshefsky is Chair of Parkside Global Advisors in Washington, D.C., and previously served as Senior International Partner at WilmerHale in Washington, where she chaired the firm’s International Trade, Investment and Market Access Group. She advises multinational companies on their global market access, investment and negotiation strategies.

Prior to this, Ambassador Barshefsky was the United States Trade Representative (1997- 2001) and Acting and Deputy USTR (1993-1996). As a member of President Bill Clinton’s Cabinet, she was responsible for the formulation of U.S. trade policy and the negotiation of hundreds of complex trade, market access and investment agreements across the globe, including China’s historic WTO agreement, and global agreements in financial services, telecommunications, high-tech products and cyberspace. She has been a scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and a recipient of numerous academic, industry and professional honors.

She has been ranked as one of the most influential lawyers in the United States. She is on the Boards of the American Express Company, the Estée Lauder Companies, and MDC Partners, and is a former board member of Intel Corporation and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. She is also a Trustee of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and a non-resident Senior Fellow at Yale’s Paul Tsai China Center.

Peter F. Cowhey is Dean Emeritus and Qualcomm Chair Emeritus of the School of Global Policy and Strategy where he served as dean from 2002 to 2021. Cowhey served as the Qualcomm Endowed Chair in Communications and Technology Policy from its inauguration until his retirement. He is an expert on the future of communications and information technology markets and policy, specializing in U.S. trade policy, foreign policy, the Internet and international corporate strategy.

His two most recent books are “Digital DNA: Disruption and the Challenges for Global Governance” and “Transforming Global Information and Communication Markets: The Political Economy of Innovation.”

In the Clinton Administration, Cowhey served as the chief of the International Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and negotiated many of the U.S. international agreements for telecommunications and satellite services. He had responsibility for antitrust decisions involving the communications and satellite industries. In 2009, he served as the senior counselor to Ambassador Ron Kirk in the Office of the United States Trade Representative, and on a bi-national experts group appointed by the U.S. and Chinese governments to research and advise on innovation policy.

Rush Doshi is deputy senior director for China and Taiwan at the National Security Council and was the founding director of the Brookings China Strategy Initiative and a fellow (on leave) at Yale Law School's Paul Tsai China Center. He is the author of "The Long Game: China's Grand Strategy to Displace American Order" (Oxford, 2021). Previously, he was a member of the Asia policy working groups for the Biden and Clinton presidential campaigns and a Fulbright Fellow in China. His research has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Foreign Affairs and International Organization, among other publications. Proficient in Mandarin, Doshi received his Ph.D. from Harvard University focusing on Chinese foreign policy and his bachelor's from Princeton University.

Michèle Flournoy is co-founder and managing partner of WestExec Advisors, and former co-founder and chief executive officer of the Center for a New American Security, where she currently serves on the board.

Flournoy served as the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy (2009-2012). She was the principal advisor to the Secretary of Defense in the formulation of national security and defense policy, oversight of military plans and operations and in National Security Council deliberations.

Flournoy is a former member of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board, the CIA Director’s External Advisory Board and the Defense Policy Board. She’s currently a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Aspen Strategy Group and is a senior fellow at Harvard’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. Flournoy serves on the boards of Booz Allen Hamilton, Amida Technology Solutions, The Mission Continues, Spirit of America, CARE and the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation.

Ken Fong is currently the founder and chairman of Kenson Ventures, LLC, a company that specializes in investing and cultivating the growth of biomedical companies. Prior to establishing Kenson, Fong founded and served as CEO of Clontech Laboratories (1984-1999), which was acquired by Becton Dickinson in 1999. Besides spending time cultivating entrepreneurs, Fong currently co-runs a Palo Alto-based biotech company, System Biosciences, which he founded.

Paul Gewirtz is the Potter Stewart Professor of Constitutional Law at Yale Law School and also the director of Yale’s Paul Tsai China Center. The Paul Tsai China Center carries out research and teaching, and also undertakes a wide range of cooperative projects with Chinese counterparts helping advance China’s legal reforms and contributing to the development of U.S.-China relations.

From 1997-98, Gewirtz was part of President Bill Clinton's administration, where he served as Special Representative for the Presidential Rule of Law Initiative. In that post, he developed and led the U.S.-China initiative to cooperate in the legal field agreed to at the 1997 and 1998 Summit meetings. Gewirtz was also the founder of Yale Law School’s Global Constitutionalism Seminar, which brings leading Supreme Court judges from around the world to Yale each year.

Before joining the Yale faculty, Gewirtz served as law clerk to Justice Thurgood Marshall of the United States Supreme Court and practiced law in Washington, D.C. He is a member of the American Law Institute and the Council on Foreign Relations. He received his B.A. degree summa cum laude from Columbia University and his law degree from Yale.

Bonnie S. Glaser is director of the Asia Program at the German Marshall Fund of the United States. She was previously senior adviser for Asia and the director of the China Power Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Glaser is concomitantly a nonresident fellow with the Lowy Institute in Sydney, Australia, and a senior associate with the Pacific Forum. For more than three decades, Glaser has worked at the intersection of Asia-Pacific geopolitics and U.S. policy.

Avril Haines is a senior research scholar at Columbia University, where she works on Columbia World Projects, in addition to being a lecturer in Law at the law school.

Haines most recently served as the Principal Deputy National Security Advisor to President Obama. Just prior to that appointment, she was the Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, and before that she served as the Legal Adviser to the National Security Council and as Deputy Counsel to the President for National Security Affairs at the White House.

Before joining the White House Counsel’s office, Haines was Assistant Legal Adviser for Treaty Affairs at the Department of State and previously worked in the Office of the Legal Adviser at the Department of State. She also worked for the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations as Deputy Chief Counsel for the Majority, served as a law clerk on U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and was a Legal Officer at The Hague.

Haines earned a bachelor’s in physics from the University of Chicago, founded and ran a bookstore café for five years while engaged in community service in Baltimore and earned a J.D. at Georgetown University Law Center.

Yasheng Huang is Epoch Foundation professor of global economics and management at MIT’s Sloan School of Management. Huang is the author of 11 books in both English and Chinese and of academic papers and news commentaries.His books, “Statism with Chinese Characteristics” (Cambridge University Press) and “The Rise of the EAST: How Examination, Autocracy, Stability and Technology Have Shaped China in History and Today” (Yale University Press), will be published in 2023. He is currently a co-Principal Investigator in a large-scale multi-disciplinary research project on food safety in China. He is collaborating with Chinese academics on a book project, The Needham Question, based on a comprehensive database on Chinese historical inventions and politics.

At MIT Sloan School, Professor Huang founded and runs China Lab and India Lab, which have provided low-cost consulting services to hundreds of small and medium enterprises in China and India. He has served as a consultant at World Bank, Asian Development Bank and OECD, and serves on advisory and corporate boards of nonprofit and for-profit organizations. He is a founding member and is serving as the president of Asian American Scholar Forum, a NGO dedicated to open science, protection of rights and well-being of Asian American scholars.

Yiping Huang is Jin Guang Chair Professor of Economics and deputy dean of the National School of Development (NSD) and director of the Institute of Digital Finance (IDF) at Peking University. In October 2018, he was appointed by the International Monetary Fund’s Managing Director Lagarde as a member of the External Advisory Group on Surveillance. He served as a member of the Monetary Policy Committee at the People’s Bank of China during 2015‐2018. Currently, he is vice chairman of council at the Public Policy Research Center and research fellow at the Financial Research Center, both at the Counselors’ Office of the State Council. He also serves as chairman of the Academic Committee of China Finance 40 Forum, and a member of Chinese Economists 50 Forum. He is editor of China Economic Journal and an associate editor of Asian Economic Policy Review. His current research focuses on financial reform and fintech.

Previously, he was a policy analyst at the Research Center for Rural Development of the State Council, senior lecturer of economics at the Australian National University, General Mills International Visiting Professor of Economics and Finance at the Columbia Business School, managing director and Chief Asia Economist for Citigroup, and an independent director of China Life Insurance Ltd and Mybank.

Huang received his bachelor’s of agricultural economics from Zhejiang Agricultural University, M.A. in economics from Renmin University of China and Ph.D. in economics from Australian National University.

Evan Medeiros is the Penner Family Chair in Asia Studies in the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. His research and teaching focuses on the international politics of East Asia, U.S.-China relations and China’s foreign and national security policies. He has published several books and articles and regularly provides advice and commentary to global corporations and the international media.

Medeiros previously served for six years on the staff of the National Security Council as Director for China, Taiwan and Mongolia and then as special assistant to the President and senior director for Asia. In the latter role, Medeiros served as President Obama's top advisor on the Asia-Pacific and was responsible for coordinating U.S. policy toward the Asia-Pacific across the areas of diplomacy, defense policy, economic policy and intelligence. He was actively involved in all aspects U.S.-China relations for six years, including several U.S.-China summits.

In recent years, Medeiros has advised multinational companies on Asia in his role at Eurasia Group. Prior to joining the White House, he also worked for seven years as a senior political scientist at the RAND Corporation. He also served as a policy advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury Hank Paulson working on the U.S.-China Strategic Economic Dialogue (2007-2008).

Barry Naughton is the So Kwan Lok Chair of Chinese International Affairs at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy. Naughton’s work on the Chinese economy focuses on market transition, industry and technology, foreign trade and political economy. His first book, “Growing Out of the Plan”, won the Ohira Prize in 1996, and a new edition of his popular survey and textbook, “The Chinese Economy: Adaptation and Growth”, appeared in 2018. Naughton did his dissertation research in China, and received his Ph.D. in economics from Yale University.

Naughton was a visiting scholar at Tsinghua University School of Public Policy and Management in the fall of 2012 and again in the fall of 2013. He is currently coordinator of the new Master’s in Chinese Economic and Political Affairs degree program at the school and working on a new book on China’s industrial policy.

Dominic Ng is chairman, president and chief executive officer of East West Bank, the top ranked commercial bank in the Bank Director’s 2021 Bank Performance Scorecard. Ng transformed East West from a small savings and loan association with $600 million in assets into a global bank with $61 billion in assets and a differentiated U.S.-China focus.

Ng serves on the governing boards of Mattel, University of Southern California and the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and was previously elected chairman of the Committee of 100, a leadership organization that advocates for constructive bilateral engagement. Among the extensive recognitions for his business achievements, civic leadership and philanthropic impact, Ng was named by American Banker as Banker of the Year and awarded United Way Worldwide's highest honor. He is a frequent speaker at venues including the Boao Forum, Milken Institute, Pacific Pension & Investment Institute, Federal Reserve Bank and the U.S. Conference of Mayors. Ng’s commentaries on U.S.-China relations, economics, finance, banking and philanthropy have been published in Forbes, the Los Angeles Times and the South China Morning Post among other media outlets.

Tom Nides is vice chairman of Morgan Stanley. Prior to rejoining the firm in 2013, he was Deputy Secretary of State and Chief Operating Officer of the Department. In 2013, he was awarded the Secretary of State’s Distinguished Service Award – the nation’s highest diplomatic honor – by Secretary Clinton. Prior to the State Department, Nides was the chief operating officer of Morgan Stanley. He previously served as worldwide president and chief executive officer of Burson-Marsteller and as chief administrative officer of Credit Suisse First Boston.

Nides began his career on Capitol Hill and has served in many roles, including for the House Majority Whip, for the Speaker of the House and as Chief of Staff to the U.S. Trade Representative. He serves on numerous nonprofit boards including the International Rescue Committee, the Partnership for Public Service, the Atlantic Council and the Urban Alliance Foundation. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and is the former chairman of the board of the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C.

Yingyi Qian was born in Beijing and graduated from Tsinghua University with a degree in mathematics. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University after earning an M.Phil. in management science and operations research from Yale University and an M.A. in statistics from Columbia University.

He was on the economics faculties at Stanford University, the University of Maryland and UC Berkeley. He was the dean of the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University (2006-2018).

Qian was elected as a fellow of the Econometric Society in 2012 and as inaugural Distinguished Professor of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Tsinghua University in 2018. He was a recipient of the 2009 Sun Yefang Prize in Economic Sciences and the inaugural 2016 China Economics Prize. His main research areas include comparative economics, institutional economics, economics of transition and the Chinese economy.

He is the author of the book “How Reform Worked in China: The Transition from Plan to Market” and has published articles in international journals such as The American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, The Quarterly Journal of Economics and The Review of Economic Studies.

Margaret (Molly) Roberts is a professor at UC San Diego in the Department of Political Science and the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute and co-director of 21st Century China Center's China Data Lab. Her research interests lie in the intersection of political methodology and the politics of information, specifically focused on censorship and propaganda, digital politics and the use of text analysis in social science.

Her work has appeared in venues such as the American Journal of Political Science, American Political Science Review, Political Analysis and Science. Her book “Censored: Distraction and Diversion Inside China’s Great Firewall” was listed as one of the Foreign Affairs Best Books of 2018, was honored with the Goldsmith Book Award, and has been awarded the Best Book Award in the Human Rights Section and Information Technology and Politics Section of the American Political Science Association. She holds the Chancellor's Associates Endowed Chair I at UC San Diego.

Donald J. Rosenberg is a Fellow in Residence at the Center on Global Transformation in UC San Diego’s School of Global Policy and Strategy. Formerly Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Qualcomm Incorporated. During his 14 year tenure at Qualcomm, Rosenberg played a key role in shaping and executing the company’s strategic direction and policy initiatives regularly engaging with governments throughout the world, including U.S., China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, the EU and its Member States, Brazil and Canada. Before joining Qualcomm, Rosenberg served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Apple Inc., and Senior Vice President and General Counsel of IBM Corporation.

Rosenberg is also, a Venture Partner at Anzu Partners where he advises technology start up companies. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations; the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations; the International Advisory Board at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy; and the China Leadership Board of the school's 21st Century China Center.

Rosenberg has served as an adjunct professor of law at New York's Pace University School of Law, where he taught courses in intellectual property and antitrust law.

Kevin Rudd became president and CEO of Asia Society in January 2021 and has been president of the Asia Society Policy Institute since January 2015. He served as Australia's 26th Prime Minister from 2007 to 2010, then as Foreign Minister from 2010 to 2012, before returning as Prime Minister in 2013.

Rudd is chair of the Board of the International Peace Institute. He is a member of the IMF Managing Director’s External Advisory Group and the Global Leadership Council for Sanitation and Water for All. He is a Senior Fellow at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, a Distinguished Fellow at Chatham House in London, a Distinguished Statesman with the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington DC, and a Distinguished Fellow at the Paulson Institute in Chicago. Rudd is a member of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty Organization’s Group of Eminent Persons. He serves on the International Advisory Board of the Schwarzman Scholars program at Tsinghua University. Rudd is proficient in Mandarin Chinese. He remains actively engaged in indigenous reconciliation.

Kori Schake is a senior fellow and the director of foreign and defense policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI). Before joining AEI, Schake was the deputy director-general of the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London. She has had a distinguished career in government, working at the U.S. State Department, the U.S. Department of Defense and the National Security Council at the White House. She has also taught at Stanford, West Point, Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies, National Defense University and the University of Maryland.

Schake is the author of five books, among them “America vs the West: Can the Liberal World Order Be Preserved?” (2018) and “Safe Passage: The Transition from British to American Hegemony” ( 2017). She is also the coeditor, along with former Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, of “Warriors & Citizens: American Views of Our Military” (2016). Schake has been widely published in policy journals and the popular press, including in CNN.com, Foreign Affairs, Politico, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. She is a contributing writer at The Atlantic and War on the Rocks.

Orville Schell is the Arthur Ross Director of the Center on U.S.-China Relations at the Asia Society in New York. He is a former professor and dean at UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.

Schell is the author of fifteen books, ten of them about China. His most recent book is “Wealth and Power: China’s Long March to the Twenty-first Century.”

Schell graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard University in Far Eastern History, was an exchange student at Taiwan University in the 1960s, and earned a Ph.D. (Abd) in Chinese History at UC Berkeley. He worked for the Ford Foundation in Indonesia, covered the war in Indochina as a journalist and has traveled widely in China since the mid-70s.

He is a fellow at the Weatherhead East Asian Institute at Columbia University, a senior fellow at the Annenberg School of Communications at USC and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Schell was a fellow at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and the recipient of many prizes and fellowships, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Overseas Press Club Award and the Harvard-Stanford Shorenstein Prize in Asian Journalism.

Wendy R. Sherman was sworn in as the 21st and first female Deputy Secretary of State on April 14, 2021.Prior to assuming this position, Sherman was professor of the practice of public leadership and director of the Center for Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School. She was also a Senior Fellow at the School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, and a Senior Counselor at Albright Stonebridge Group.

From 2011-2015, Deputy Secretary Sherman served as Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, where she traveled to 54 countries and led the U.S. negotiating team that reached agreement on a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action between the P5+1, the European Union, and Iran for which, among other diplomatic accomplishments, she was awarded the National Security Medal by President Barack Obama.

She previously served at the State Department as Counselor under Secretary Madeleine Albright, as Special Advisor to President Clinton and Policy Coordinator on North Korea, and as Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs under Secretary Warren Christopher.She also was also a member of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board, was Chair of the Board of Directors of Oxfam America, and served on the U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Policy Board and Congressional Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction, Proliferation and Terrorism.

Susan Shirk is research professor and chair of the 21st Century China Center at the School. She is one of the most influential experts working on U.S.-China relations and Chinese politics.

Shirk’s book "China: Fragile Superpower" helped frame the policy debate on China in the U.S. and other countries. Her articles have appeared in leading academic publications in the fields of political science, international relations and China studies, and her views on a range of issues relating to modern Chinese politics are highly sought. Her most recent book is "Changing Media, Changing China."

She previously served as deputy assistant secretary of state (1997-2000), responsible for U.S. policy toward China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Mongolia and she founded and continues to lead the Northeast Asia Cooperation Dialogue, an unofficial forum for discussions of security issues.

As director emeritus and advisory board chair of the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation, Shirk served as a member of the U.S. Defense Policy board, the board of governors for the East-West Center (Hawaii), the board of trustees of the U.S.-Japan Foundation and the board of directors of the National Committee on United States-China Relations.

Joseph Torigian is an assistant professor at the School of International Service at American University and a Global Fellow in the Wilson Center’s History and Public Policy Program. Previously, he was a visiting fellow at the China in the World Program at Australian National University and a Stanton Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations.

He was also a postdoctoral fellow at Princeton-Harvard’s China and the World Program, a postdoctoral (and predoctoral) fellow at Stanford’s Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC), a predoctoral fellow at George Washington University’s Institute for Security and Conflict Studies, an IREX scholar affiliated with the Higher School of Economics in Moscow and a Fulbright Scholar at Fudan University in Shanghai.

His new book, “Prestige, Manipulation, and Coercion: Elite Power Struggles in the Soviet Union and China after Stalin and Mao” was recently released with Yale University Press, and he has a forthcoming biography on Xi Jinping’s father with Stanford University Press.

Rory Truex is assistant professor of Politics and International Affairs at Princeton University. His research focuses on Chinese politics and authoritarian systems. His work has been published in top political science journals, including the American Political Science Review, Comparative Political Studies, and The China Quarterly, and featured in the Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. In 2021, he received the President’s Award for Distinguished Teaching, the highest teaching honor at Princeton.

Matt Turpin is a visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution specializing in U.S. policy toward the People’s Republic of China, economic statecraft and technology innovation. He is also a senior advisor at Palantir Technologies.

From 2018 to 2019, Turpin served as the U.S. National Security Council’s Director for China and the Senior Advisor on China to the Secretary of Commerce. In those roles, he was responsible for managing the interagency effort to develop and implement U.S. government policies on the People’s Republic of China.

Before entering the White House, Turpin served over 22 years in the U.S. Army in a variety of combat units in the U.S., Europe and the Middle East and as an assistant professor of history at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He retired from the Army in 2017.

From 2013 to 2017, he served as an adviser on the People’s Republic of China to the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Pentagon and was assigned to assist the Deputy Secretary of Defense with the Defense Innovation Initiative, a program to examine the implications of great power competition on the Department of Defense and the role of innovation in U.S. defense policy.

Jake Sullivan is Montgomery Fellow at Dartmouth College and a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. He is a partner with the consulting firm Macro Advisory Partners.

Sullivan served as deputy assistant to President Obama and National Security Advisor to Vice President Joe Biden (2013-2014). He was director of Policy Planning at the U.S. Department of State (2011-2013) and deputy chief of staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (2009-2011). He later was senior policy advisor on Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.

Sullivan also now serves as co-chair of National Security Action, a progressive national security advocacy organization, and a trustee of the International Crisis Group. He holds a law degree and B.A. in international relations from Yale and an M.Phil in international relations from Oxford.

Shuo Wang is the editor-in-chief of Caixin Media, China’s leading business and finance news organization. Wang won the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Institutional Journalism of the State Street Institutional Press Awards (Asia Pacific) in 2014. Other honors include Young Global Leader 2012 (Davos World Economic Forum), Young Leader 2008 (Boao Forum for Asia) and Yale World Fellow 2016 (Yale University).

Wang was educated in Renmin University of China and Peking University. He also holds a master’s degree from SAIS of Johns Hopkins University.

Victor Wang is the managing partner of AimTop Ventures based in Palo Alto, California. AimTop Ventures focuses on investing in early-stage tech startups in the healthcare and mobility industries. Wang holds a bachelor’s degree and M.S. from University of Science and Technology in China and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University. With his Ph.D. research in AI, he has developed a deep understanding of AI technologies and industry. Wang is the author of the recent best-selling book in Chinese and Korean on AI: “Dark Knowledge.”

Wang has 30 years of high-tech and entrepreneurial experience in both Silicon Valley and China. He holds 12 U.S. patents in mobile internet and wearable computing. Wang was an entrepreneur who developed world-first handheld mobile internet devices together with the mobile network infrastructure and deployed commercial data mobile data networks in many metropolitan areas. While doing business in China, Wang helped co-founded several influential industrial and nonprofit organizations among entrepreneurs in China.

Rick Waters is the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for China, Taiwan and Mongolia in the Bureau of East Asia and Pacific Affairs. In this role, he supervises the Office of Chinese and Mongolian Affairs and the Taiwan Coordination staff and has day-to-day responsibility for our diplomatic missions in China and Mongolia and our relationship with the American Institute in Taipei. His previous roles at the State Department include Executive Assistant to Under Secretary of State David Hale, Director of the Office of Chinese and Mongolian Affairs and Political Counselor positions at Embassies Beijing and Islamabad and Consulate General Jerusalem.

Waters has served multiple tours in China (1998-2001), during the accidental bombing of the Belgrade Embassy and the EP3 Hainan Island crisis. His department tours include staff assistant to Bill Burns, Deputy Director in the Office of Israeli-Palestinian Affairs, and Middle East action officer in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs. Waters speaks Mandarin, Arabic and Spanish.

Andrew Weiss is the James Family Chair and vice president for studies at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, where he oversees research on Russia and Eurasia. He is also the Library of Congress Chair in U.S.-Russia Relations at the John W. Kluge Center (2021-2022). Prior to joining Carnegie, he was director of the RAND Corporation’s Center for Russia and Eurasia and executive director of the RAND Business Leaders Forum.

He previously served as director for Russian, Ukrainian, and Eurasian Affairs on the National Security Council staff, as a member of the State Department’s Policy Planning Staff, and as a policy assistant in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy during the administrations of Presidents Bill Clinton and George H. W. Bush.

Before joining RAND, Weiss was a vice president and investment strategist at American International Group, Inc. subsidiary companies, where he worked primarily on global commodities, energy and foreign exchange markets.

Ken Wilcox currently serves as emeritus chairman of Silicon Valley Bank and was both president and vice chairman of SPD Silicon Valley Bank, Silicon Valley Bank’s joint-venture bank in Shanghai. Wilcox was previously the CEO of SVB Financial Group. In that role, he successfully pursued a strategy of expansion and diversification, while remaining focused on the group’s core niches of technology, life sciences, venture capital and premium wineries. Wilcox is a member of the board of the Asia Society of Northern California, treasurer of the Asian Art Museum and a member of the Advisory Board of the 21st Century China Center Advisory Board.

Wilcox earned a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School, as well as a Ph.D. in German studies from Ohio State University. In January 2020, he published “Leading Through Culture: How Real Leaders Create Cultures that Motivate People to Achieve Great Things.”

Yao Yunzhu is a retired major general of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China, senior advisor to the China Association of Military Sciences and director emeritus of the Center on China-American Defense Relations, the Academy of Military Sciences (AMS). She joined the PLA in 1970, served in the PLA as an Army soldier, a staff officer, an instructor, a researcher, deputy director and director of a research office and director of a research center.

She holds an M.A. degree from the PLA’s Foreign Languages Institute and a Ph.D. in military science from the Academy of Military Sciences. She had been a visiting scholar at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London University (1995-1996), an Eisenhower Fellow (1999) and a visiting fellow at Harvard University (200902010). She has published books, translated books, articles and papers on international military and security issues, U.S. military affairs, nuclear weapon policy and arms control and Asia-Pacific security issues. Her works include “Post-war American Deterrence: Theories and Policies, On Asia-Pacific Security Strategy” and “20th Century Strategic Legacy and the World through Chinese Scholars.”

Ambassador Zhang Ping has served as the Consul General in Los Angeles since 2017. Before that, he has served as a senior diplomat with posts in the Chinese embassies in Washington D.C., Australia and Fiji. Altogether he has had more than ten years of diplomatic experience representing China in the U.S. He has also held important positions in the Chinese foreign ministry and the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador J. Stapleton (Stape) Roy is director emeritus of the Kissinger Institute on China and the United States at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C. and a distinguished scholar at the center. He was born in China and spent much of his youth there during the upheavals of World War II and the communist revolution. He joined the U.S. Foreign Service immediately after graduating from Princeton, retiring 45 years later with the rank of Career Ambassador, the highest in the service. During a career focused on East Asia and the Soviet Union, his ambassadorial assignments included Singapore, the People’s Republic of China and Indonesia. His final post with the State Department was as Assistant Secretary for Intelligence and Research.

On retirement he joined Kissinger Associates, Inc., a strategic consulting firm, moving to the Wilson Center in 2008 to head the newly created Kissinger Institute. In 2001, he received Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson Award for Distinguished Public Service.

Maggie Goodlander is an attorney at Skadden and teaches administrative law at the University of New Hampshire School of Law. She previously served as a senior policy adviser to Senator John McCain of Arizona and to Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, covering a range of national security issues, including the Asia-Pacific region. Goodlander also served as a law clerk to Justice Stephen Breyer of the U.S. Supreme Court and Chief Judge Merrick Garland of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. She is an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

James Kralik is the managing director of Linden Street Capital Limited, and CEO of Milestone Capital Strategic Holdings Limited. Based in Shanghai since 2000, he has lived and worked in China for more than thirty years. Kralik began his career at McKinsey & Company, where he worked in both North America and Asia. Subsequently he founded and co-managed a group of media companies operating in Hong Kong and China. Kralik was the CEO of VTech Telecommunications Ltd. (2001-2004)

In addition to various corporate boards, Kralik serves on the board of trustees of the University School in Cleveland, Ohio, the Harvard University Global Advisory Council and the Harvard Business School Global Leader’s Circle. He also serves as chair of UC San Diego’s 21st Century China Center Leadership Board, on the board of trustees of the UC San Diego Foundation and on the executive committee and board of directors of the Chief Executives Organization.

President Barack Obama nominated Max Baucus to be Ambassador of the United States of America to the People's Republic of China (2014-2017). He formerly served as the senior U.S. Senator from Montana (1978-2014) and was Montana’s longest serving senator. While in the Senate, Ambassador Baucus was Chairman and Ranking Member of the powerful Senate Committee on Finance. While Chairman, he was the chief architect of the Affordable Health Care Act (ACA) which was signed by President Barack Obama into law March 23, 2009.

Ambassador Baucus gained extensive experience in international trade as Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee where he led the passage and enactment of the Free Trade Agreements with 11 countries. While serving on the Senate Agriculture Committee, he led in securing reauthorization of numerous farm bills. As a member of the Committee on Environment and Public Works, he guided many highway bills and other infrastructure legislation to passage as well as leading the passage of The Clean Air Act of 1990. Before his election to the U.S. Senate, Ambassador Baucus represented Montana in the U.S. House of Representatives (1975-1978). Ambassador Baucus earned a bachelor’s and law degree from Stanford University.

Doug Beck is director of Defense Innovation Unit for the U.S. Department of Defense. Prior he served as vice president for Worldwide Institutional and Public Impact Businesses at Apple, Inc. From 2014-2019, he led Apple’s businesses in Americas and Northeast Asia across all products/markets. Previously based in Tokyo, he led Apple Northeast Asia. Previously he was with the Charles Schwab Corporation, where he served as senior vice president and chief strategy officer. Prior to Schwab, he was a partner at McKinsey & Company, and was elected in 2000 as one of youngest partners in McKinsey history while based in Shanghai.

Beck has more than twenty years experience living and/or working across China, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia.

Beck is a U.S. Navy Reserve Captain, and served from 2006 through 2007 in Iraq and Afghanistan, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and Presidential Unit Citation. He currently commands the joint reserve component INDOPACOM JIOC. Beck is a member of the Board of Directors of the Center for a New American Security and Association of American Rhodes Scholars, as well as a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and of Yale’s Jackson Institute Council on global affairs.

James Steinberg is the tenth dean of Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. Previously, he served as University Professor of Social Science, International Affairs and Law at Syracuse University, where he was dean of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs for five years.

Prior, he served as Deputy Secretary of State to Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton (2009-2011), was dean of the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs (2005-2008), vice president and director of Foreign Policy Studies at the Brookings Institution (2001-2005) and was deputy national security advisor to President Bill Clinton (1996-2000).

Steinberg’s most recent books are “A Glass Half Full? Rebalance, Reassurance and Resolve and Strategic Reassurance” and “Resolve: US-China Relations in the 21st Century.” He has also authored “Difficult Transitions: Foreign Policy Troubles at the Outset of Presidential Power” with Kurt Campbell.

Tai Ming Cheung is a professor at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy and director of the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation. His areas of research focus include China's efforts to become a world-class science and technology power, and the relationship between geoeconomics, innovation and national security. Cheung’s latest book is “Innovate to Dominate: The Rise of the Chinese Techno-Security State” (Cornell University Press, 2022).

Cui Tiankai became ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the United States in 2013, having previously served as vice minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2009-2013) and ambassador to Japan (2007-2009).

In addition, he has served various postings in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including: assistant minister (2006-07); director-general of the Department of Asian Affairs (2003-06); director-general (2001-03) and deputy director-general (1999-2001) of the Policy Research Office; deputy director-general and spokesman at the Information Department (1996-97); and deputy division director, director and then counselor at the Department of International Organizations and Conferences (1987-96). He was also minister counselor at the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations (1997-99) and an interpreter for the Chinese Service in the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management at the U.N. Secretariat (1981-84).

Ambassador Cui was a teacher at Shanghai Normal University, where he completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies. He was also did postgraduate work at Johns Hopkins University and with a U.N. Interpreter and Translator Training Course at the Beijing Institute of Foreign Languages.

Richard Danzig’s primary activities in recent years have been as a consultant to U.S. Intelligence Agencies and the Department of Defense on national security issues. He is a Senior Fellow at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, a Trustee of the RAND Corporation, a Director of the Center for a New American Security, and a Director of Saffron Hill Ventures (a European investment firm). Danzig served as the 71st Secretary of the Navy (1998-2001) and was the Under Secretary of the Navy (1993-1997). From the spring of 2007 through the Presidential election of 2008, Danzig was a senior advisor to Senator Obama on national security issues.

Elizabeth Economy is senior fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. She is currently on leave to serve as senior advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce for China. Previously she was C.V. Starr Senior Fellow and Director for Asia Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. An award-winning author of four books, she is an expert on China and U.S.-China Relations. Her most recent book is “The World According to China” (2021). She is a frequent guest on national television and radio and has published opinion pieces in the New York Times, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal and articles in policy journals such as Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy and the Harvard Business Review. She is a member of the Aspen Strategy Group and the Board of Managers of Swarthmore College.

Melanie Hart serves as the Senior Adviser for China and the Indo-Pacific in the Office of the Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment. In this role, she coordinates China strategy and policy for the under secretary across multiple Biden-Harris administration priority lines of effort. Prior to joining the department, Hart served as Senior Fellow and China Policy Director at the Center for American Progress, an independent nonpartisan policy institute based in Washington, D.C., where she led the center’s work on China and U.S.-China relations. She has worked as a China adviser with multiple leading business advisory organizations helping American businesses understand the People's Republic of China’s evolving industrial and regulatory policies. She has a Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, San Diego and a B.A. from Texas A&M University.

Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla is an internationally renowned electrical and computer engineer recognized for his seminal contributions in secure software and intelligent robot systems. As UC San Diego’s chief executive officer, Khosla has positioned the institution to define the future of the public research university by activating the institution’s first-ever strategic plan and launching the Campaign for UC San Diego, an ambitious 10-year, $2 billion endeavor aimed at transforming the university physically, intellectually and culturally. Oriana Skylar Mastro is a Center Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, Stanford University where her research focuses on Chinese military and security policy, Asia-Pacific security issues, war termination, nuclear dynamics and coercive diplomacy. She is also a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and continues to serve in the United States Air Force Reserve for which she works as a strategic planner at INDOPACOM. For her contributions to U.S. strategy in Asia, she won the Individual Reservist of the Year Award in 2016. She has won a number of prestigious awards, including the 2016-2017 Stanton Nuclear Security Fellowship at the Council of Foreign Relations.

She has published widely, including in International Security, Foreign Affairs, the New York Times, International Studies Review, Journal of Strategic Studies, The Washington Quarterly, Survival and Asian Security. Her book “The Costs of Conversation: Obstacles to Peace Talks in Wartime” won the 2020 American Political Science Association International Security Section Best Book by an Untenured Faculty Member.

Morgan Muir has served in a variety of senior executive intelligence and policy roles. His most recent assignments include working overseas with a foreign partner and serving as the Assistant Director of CIA for Near East Affairs. Muir previously worked for three years as in the Directorate of Analysis front office, rising to be the Deputy Director of Analysis. As Deputy Director for Analytic Programs, he focused on the quality of analytic products, a portfolio that touched many aspects of the Directorate's activities. As Deputy Director for Strategic Programs, he guided a broad range of enduring initiatives, including talent management, global agility, and information technology.

Muir has also previously served as Deputy Director of the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center (CTC) and, prior to that, head of its analytic arm, the Office of Terrorism Analysis. In CTC, he led officers at the heart of the fight against al-Qa'ida and its allies, helping inform and shape US policy and operations.

Muir has extensive experience in multiple disciplines of all-source analysis and in support to a wide variety of intelligence customers. He moved to CTC from the Office of Russian and European Analysis, where he was Deputy Director, having spent the previous four years as the daily intelligence briefer for President George W. Bush. Muir’s other assignments include Issue Manager for the Balkans and Central Europe; Deputy of the DCI's interagency Balkans Task Force; NSC Director for Southeast European Affairs; and Intelligence Advisor to Assistant Secretary for European and Canadian Affairs Richard Holbrooke. He has also had tours worldwide.

Steven Lee Myers is a veteran foreign and national security correspondent for The New York Times, currently based in California covering misinformation at home and abroad. He joined The Times in 1989 and has previously worked in New York, Washington, D.C., Moscow (twice), Baghdad, Beijing and Seoul, including four times as bureau chief. From China, he contributed to the articles on the coronavirus pandemic that won the Pulitzer Prize for public service in 2021. He is also the author of “The New Tsar: The Rise and Reign of Vladimir Putin,” published by Alfred A. Knopf in 2015.

Hank Paulson is the founder and chairman of the Paulson Institute, which aims to foster a U.S.-China relationship that maintains global order in a rapidly evolving world. He is executive chairman of TPG Rise Climate, the climate investing platform of the global private equity firm TPG. Paulson is also the co-chair of the Aspen Economic Strategy Group, and co-chair of the Bloomberg New Economy Forum Advisory Board.

Paulson served as the 74th Secretary of the Treasury under President George W. Bush (2006-2009). Prior to that, he had a thirty-two year career at Goldman Sachs, serving as chairman and chief executive officer beginning in 1999. A lifelong conservationist, Paulson was chairman of The Nature Conservancy Board of Directors and, prior to that, founded and co-chaired the organization’s Asia-Pacific Council. In 2011, he founded the Latin American Conservation Council, comprised of global business and political leaders, which he co-chaired until 2017. He also co-chaired the Risky Business Project (2013-2017), a non-partisan initiative that quantified and publicized the economic risks of climate change in the U.S. Earlier in his career, he was a member of the White House Domestic Council as well as a staff assistant at the Pentagon. Paulson is the author of the bestsellers “On the Brink” and “Dealing with China.”

David Sanger is a White House and national security correspondent, and a senior writer for The New York Times. In a 40-year reporting career for The New York Times, he has been on three teams that have won Pulitzer Prizes, most recently in 2017 for international reporting. His newest book, “The Perfect Weapon: War, Sabotage and Fear in the Cyber Age,’’ and an HBO documentary by the same title, examine the emergence of cyberconflict and its role in changing the nature of global power. He co-teaches the course Central Challenges in American National Security, Strategy and the Press at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government.

Thomas M. O’Gara is a co-founder of The O’Gara Group, which provides security, safety, and defense products and services to governments, militaries, corporations and individuals. He has been the O’Gara Group’s Chairman since its formation in August 2003. O’Gara previously served as Vice Chairman of the Board of The Kroll-O’Gara Company, a publicly traded provider of specialized products and services to the risk mitigation and security markets, from 1997 until 2001. He served as Chairman of the Board of The O’Gara Company from 1996 until the 1997 merger of Kroll Holdings, Inc. with The O’Gara Company. Mr. O’Gara also was Chairman of the Board of the O’Gara-Hess & Eisenhardt Armoring Company since 1990 and was its Chief Executive Officer from 1990 until 1995.

President of Roche Enterprises, Robert Roche is a serial entrepreneur, civic leader and philanthropist. With more than three decades doing business and living in Asia, he has founded and managed multiple companies, invested in start-ups and worked on initiatives to strengthen U.S.-China relations. He is executive chairman of Acorn International, a leading media and branding company in China, and executive chairman and chief executive officer of Oak Lawn Marketing, an omni-channel brand response company in Japan. Roche also serves as executive chairman of Cachet Hotel Group, an Asia-Pacific hospitality management company. He co-founded IS Seafood and Redhorse Performance, and is an investor and advisor to Krane Fund Advisors.

Roche has served as chairman of the Board of Governors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, and as a steering committee member for the USA National Pavilion at the Shanghai 2010 World Expo. Under President Obama, he served on the United States Trade Representative’s (USTR) Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations. Roche supports several non-profit enterprises dedicated to strengthening U.S.-Asia relations, including Americans Promoting Study Abroad (APSA), the U.S.-China Strong Foundation and the U.S. Japan Bridging Scholars Foundation.

Roche earned a degree in Economics and Japanese Studies from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois, and received his Juris Doctor from Denver University, Sturm College of Law.

John Rogovin became executive vice president and general counsel of Warner Bros. Entertainment in 2009. As general counsel, Rogovin oversees a worldwide staff of 200 lawyers responsible for the company’s legal needs, including litigation, transactions, intellectual property, antitrust counseling, content protection and labor and employment law.

Prior to joining Warner Bros., Rogovin led a distinguished career in public service and private practice, where he specialized in federal court litigation, regulatory proceedings and mergers and acquisitions. He served four years at the FCC, including as General Counsel, providing guidance on key communications issues, including broadband Internet access, wireless spectrum and the digital transition.

Rogovin also served in the Clinton Administration as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Division of the Department of Justice, defending the U.S. against challenges to the legality of governmental policies, programs and actions. Before that, he was an Assistant to the Attorney General and Deputy Transition Counsel for President-elect Clinton. He started his legal career as a law clerk to The Honorable Laurence H. Silberman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. In October 2017, Rogovin was honored with the Learned Hand Award by the Los Angeles Branch of the American Jewish Committee. Rogovin holds a B.A. from Columbia University and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.

Ambassador Kurt Tong is a managing partner at The Asia Group, providing advice and support to corporations as they seek to succeed in Asia. Prior to joining the firm, Tong served as Chief of Mission and U.S. Consul General in Hong Kong and Macau, leading U.S. political and economic engagement in the Special Administrative Regions. Mike Froman serves as vice chairman and president, Strategic Growth for Mastercard. In that role he is responsible for growing strategic partnerships, scaling new business opportunities, and advancing the company’s efforts to partner with governments and other institutions to address major societal and economic issues.

Prior to joining Mastercard, Froman was affiliated with the Council on Foreign Relations and continues to serve as a distinguished fellow. From 2013 to 2017, Froman served as the U.S. Trade Representative, President Barack Obama’s principal advisor and negotiator on international trade and investment issues. From 2009-2013, he served at the White House as assistant to the President and deputy national security advisor for international economic affairs.

Prior to joining the Obama Administration, Froman held several executive positions at Citigroup, where he helped shape the company’s strategy in China and other emerging markets. Earlier in his career, during the Clinton Administration, he worked at the White House and the Treasury Department.

Wendy Cutler is Vice President at ASPI and the managing director of the Washington, D.C. office. In these roles, she focuses on leading initiatives that address challenges related to trade, investment and innovation, as well as women’s empowerment in Asia. She joined ASPI following an illustrious career of nearly three decades as a diplomat and negotiator in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), where she also served as Acting Deputy U.S. Trade Representative. During her USTR career, she worked on a range of bilateral, regional and multilateral trade negotiations and initiatives, including the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement, the Trans-Pacific Partnership, U.S.-China negotiations and the WTO Financial Services negotiations. She has published a series of ASPI papers on the Asian trade landscape and serves as a regular media commentator on trade and investment developments in Asia and the world.

John Flower is director of the Sidwell Friends School Chinese Studies Program, a former associate professor of History at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and fellow at the East Asia Center at the University of Virginia. His scholarship includes publications on local history and folklife in China and Tibet.

At Sidwell Friends, Flower teaches courses on China and East Asian History, and he leads the “China Fieldwork” summer and semester experiential learning programs in Yunnan. His current project, the “China Folk House Retreat,” is rebuilding a Yunnan farmstead on a nature reserve in rural West Virginia to serve as a site for experiential learning, environmental sustainability and people-to-people cultural exchanges focusing on traditional agriculture, folkways and craft.

Michael Fullilove is the executive director of the Lowy Institute. He wrote its feasibility study in 2002, served as the director of its Global Issues Program from 2003 and was appointed as executive director in 2012. He has also worked as a lawyer, a visiting fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC, and an adviser to former Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating.

Fullilove remains a Nonresident Senior Fellow at Brookings and serves on the Advisory Council of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London. Fullilove writes widely on Australian and U.S. foreign policy and global issues. He has been quoted in world-renowned publications and appears regularly on global broadcasters. He has authored, edited and co-edited several written works which have received critical acclaim. In 2019, Fullilove was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to international relations.

Robert Mandell was the U.S. Ambassador to Luxembourg from 2011 to 2015. He currently serves on the boards of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, Center for New American Security and Human Rights First. Prior to service as an ambassador, Mandell was the CEO of Greater Homes, which built 14,000 homes in the Central Florida area. He also served as chairman of the Florida Environmental Regulation Commission and the Orlando Expressway Authority.

Jason Matheny is president and CEO of the RAND Corporation. Previously he was deputy director for National Security at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, coordinator for Technology and National Security at the National Security Council, founding director of Georgetown’s Center for Security and Emerging Technology, assistant director of National Intelligence and director of IARPA. Before IARPA, he worked at Oxford University, the World Bank, the Applied Physics Laboratory, the Center for Biosecurity and Princeton University, and was the cofounder of two biotechnology companies.

Julianne Smith is a senior advisor to the president and serves as the director of the Asia Program and the Geopolitics Program at the German Marshall Fund of the United States. She is a contributing editor to Foreign Policy, where she co-edits “Shadow Government.” She is also a senior advisor at WestExec Advisors.

In 2018, Smith was awarded the Weizsäcker Fellowship from the Robert Bosch Academy in Berlin where she spent a year focusing on German foreign policy and transatlantic cooperation in Asia. In 2016-2018, Smith directed the Transatlantic Security Program at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS). In 2012-2013, she served as the deputy national security advisor to the vice president of the United States. Before her post at the White House, she served for three years as the principal director for European and NATO policy in the Office of the Secretary of Defense in the Pentagon. In 2012, she was awarded the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service.

Smith has also worked at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Association of the U.S. Army on the Project on the Role of American Military Power and the British American Security Information Council. She also worked in Germany at the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik as a Robert Bosch Foundation Fellow.

Philip Zelikow is the White Burkett Miller Professor of History at the University of Virginia. His scholarship focuses on critical episodes in American and world history. An attorney and former career diplomat who has served at all levels of American government, his federal service includes work in the five administrations from Reagan through Obama. He has also led bipartisan commissions, serving as the executive director of the 9/11 Commission and, before that, as executive director of the Carter-Ford commission on federal election reform, and recently led a national planning group for a commission on the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.

Yichen Zhang is the chairman and CEO of CITIC Capital Holdings Limited. He founded CITIC Capital in 2002 and has led all phases of the firm’s development since then. Under his leadership, CITIC Capital has led a number of landmark deals, investing in some of China’s leading companies. He concurrently serves as the Board Chairman of McDonald's China, Harbin Pharmaceutical and Universal Medical, and he also sits on the boards of Sina Corporation, AsiaInfo, SF Express, the Russia-China Investment Fund and Cityneon.

Zhang is also a leader in political, economic and social communities. He is a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a board member of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, executive committee member and former chairman of the China Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (CVCA), among other positions.

Ana Swanson writes about trade and international economics for The New York Times. She previously covered the economy, trade and the Federal Reserve for The Washington Post. Before that, Ana was an editor of Foreign Policy’s South Asia Channel and the editor-in-chief of China Economic Review magazine in Shanghai.

She has a bachelor’s degree in cultural anthropology from Northwestern University, a certificate from The Hopkins-Nanjing Center and a master’s in international relations with a focus in China and international economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Before moving to Washington, D.C., she lived and worked in China for eight years.

Richard Verma is vice chairman and partner at The Asia Group, a leading strategic advisory firm in Washington, D.C. He previously served as the U.S. Ambassador to India from 2014 to 2017, where he led one of the largest U.S. diplomatic missions and championed historic progress in bilateral cooperation on defense, trade and clean energy.

Ambassador Verma was previously the Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs. Meghan L. O’Sullivan is the Jeane Kirkpatrick Professor of the Practice of International Affairs and the director of the Geopolitics of Energy Project at Harvard University’s Kennedy School. She is also chair of the North American Group of the Trilateral Commission.

She served as special assistant to President George W. Bush and Deputy National Security Advisor for Iraq and Afghanistan. She helped run two strategic policy reviews which led to the “surge” strategy. At the National Security Council, O’Sullivan built consensus around new policy directions in Iraq and Afghanistan, and oversaw their execution. She spent two years in Iraq to help negotiate and conclude the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) and strategic framework agreement. She also helped negotiate Iraq’s interim constitution from 2004-06.

In 2013, O’Sullivan was vice chair of the All Party Talks, which sought to achieve more durable peace in Northern Ireland after the 1998 Good Friday Agreement.

O’Sullivan has written several books and many articles on international affairs. She has been awarded the Defense Department's highest honor for civilians, the Distinguished Public Service Medal and three times been awarded the State Department's Superior Honor Award. In 2008, Esquire Magazine named her one of the most influential people of the century.

Renee Bowen is a professor at the UC San Diego Department of Economics. She has published in top economics journals including the American Economic Review, and the Quarterly Journal of Economics and is on the editorial boards of American Economic Review: Insights, The Journal of Economic Literature, Journal of Mathematical Economics, Quarterly Journal of Political Science and the Review of International Organizations. She is a member of the California Governor’s Council of Economic Advisors, and has held positions at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, the Hoover Institution, the World Bank, J.P. Morgan Securities and the Inter-American Development Bank. Her recent work examines the design of global multilateral institutions.

Myron Brilliant is executive vice president and head of International Affairs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the world’s largest business association. Previously, he served as the Chamber’s vice president for Asia. Under Brilliant’s leadership, the Chamber developed the largest international government relations program of any U.S. trade association. He provides strategic direction to 80 experts who are conducting programming in 50 countries and managing 20 bilateral business councils. Brilliant has deepened engagement with the global network of American Chambers of Commerce, foreign business associations and multilateral organizations like the G20, IDB, IMF, World Bank and WTO.

Brilliant is a frequent media commentator and recognized authority who regularly engages with foreign leaders and U.S. government officials. For over 25 years, he has been a leading figure in encouraging a stable, constructive and pragmatic U.S.-China relationship. He also led advocacy campaigns to support passage of several trade agreements. Brilliant serves on many boards, including for the Atlantic Council and the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition. He is treasurer for the Center for International Private Enterprise, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, and an economic development adviser to the governor of China’s Guangdong Province.

Nicholas R. Baldick is managing partner of Hilltop Public Solutions, focusing his efforts managing large-scale issue, coalition and organizing campaigns.

As a public affairs strategist, Baldick has successfully managed numerous campaigns on behalf of a number of Fortune 100 companies. These efforts have included nationwide campaigns on behalf of the country’s largest financial services firm, the world’s largest private healthcare provider and one of the world’s largest airlines. In 2010, Baldick managed the largest, most expensive issue campaign in history, when he helped a group of health care stakeholders build support for the passage of health care reform.

Baldick began his political career in 1992 on the presidential campaign of then Governor Bill Clinton. He went on to work in the Clinton White House, to run President Clinton’s Florida re-election campaign in 1996 and then serve as a strategist for Vice President Gore’s campaign in 2000. In 2003, Baldick served as the national campaign manager for Senator John Edwards’ 2004 presidential campaign. Other candidates that have relied on Baldick’s counsel include Bill de Blasio for Mayor (New York City), Steve Bullock for Governor of Montana and Chris Koster for Attorney General of Missouri.

Julian Gewirtz is an academy scholar at Harvard University’s Weatherhead Center for International Affairs. Previously, he served as special advisor for international affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy, a lecturer in history at Harvard and a fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School. He is the author of a study of China’s economic reforms entitled, “Unlikely Partners: Chinese Reformers, Western Economists, and the Making of Global China,” and the forthcoming book, “A New History of the Tumult and Legacies of the 1980s in China.”

Gewirtz’s writing has appeared in Foreign Affairs, the Journal of Asian Studies, The New York Times, Politico and the Wall Street Journal, among other publications. He recently was guest editor of an issue of the magazine Logic on China and technology. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, he graduated from Harvard College in 2013 and received his doctorate in 2018 from Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.

Jerry Yang co-founded Yahoo! Inc., in 1995 and served on the board of directors until January 2012. While at Yahoo, he led several initiatives, including two of the biggest investments in the internet sector: Yahoo Japan and Alibaba Group.

Yang currently works with and invests in technology entrepreneurs through AME Cloud Ventures, his innovation investment firm. Yang serves as a director on the boards of Workday Inc., Lenovo Group and Alibaba Group, as well as on a number of his portfolio boards. He also serves on Stanford University’s board of trustees, and is a board member for the National Committee of U.S.-China Relations. Yang is a member of the Brookings China Advisory Council, the Committee of 100 and the Council on Foreign Relations.

He is widely recognized as a visionary and pioneer in the internet technology sector.

Lawrence H. Summers is the Charles W. Eliot University Professor and President Emeritus of Harvard University. During the past two decades, he has served in a series of senior policy positions in Washington, DC, including the 71st Secretary of the Treasury for President Clinton, director of the National Economic Council for President Obama and Vice President of Development Economics and Chief Economist of the World Bank.

In 1983, Summers became one of the youngest individuals in recent history to be named as a tenured member of the Harvard University faculty. In 1987, Summers became the first social scientist ever to receive the annual Alan T. Waterman Award of the National Science Foundation (NSF), and in 1993 he was awarded the John Bates Clark Medal, given every two years to the outstanding American economist under the age of 40.

He is currently the Charles W. Eliot University Professor at Harvard University and the Weil Director of the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business & Government at Harvard’s Kennedy School.

Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla is an internationally renowned electrical and computer engineer recognized for his seminal contributions in secure software and intelligent robot systems. Ely Ratner is the executive vice president and director of studies at CNAS, where he is a member of the executive team and responsible for managing the center’s research agenda, publications and research staff.

Ratner served as the deputy national security advisor to Vice President Joe Biden (2015-2017) and in the office of Chinese and Mongolian affairs at the U.S. Department of State (2011-2012). He previously worked in the U.S. Senate as a professional staff member on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and in the office of Senator Joe Biden.

Outside of government, Ratner has worked as the Maurice R. Greenberg senior fellow for China studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, a senior fellow and deputy director of the Asia-Pacific security program at CNAS and as an associate political scientist at the RAND Corporation.

Ratner received his B.A. from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his Ph.D. in political science from UC Berkeley.

Sharon H. Yuan is president of The Asia Group, with almost 20 years of experience as a senior policymaker and private sector attorney on China and international trade and investment-related issues.

Prior to joining The Asia Group, Yuan served in the U.S. Department of the Treasury as the deputy assistant secretary for Trade and Investment Policy (2009-2015), and concurrently as the executive secretary and senior coordinator for China Affairs and the Strategic and Economic Dialogue (2012-15). Yuan also served as the Treasury Department’s lead on trade and investment policy. In recognition of her contributions and leadership, Yuan was awarded The Treasury Medal.

Yuan previously was an attorney in the International Trade & Dispute Resolution group at Sidley Austin LLP. Yuan is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations. She received a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and a B.A. in economics from UC Berkeley.

Mira Rapp-Hooper is the Stephen A. Schwarzman senior fellow for Asia studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. She is also a senior fellow at Yale Law School’s Paul Tsai China Center. At CFR, Rapp-Hooper’s work explores national security and strategy issues in Asia, including great power competition, alliances, nuclear issues and territorial disputes; the implications of China’s rise for the international order; and the future of American strategy toward Asia and China.

Rapp-Hooper’s first book, “Shields of the Republic: The History and Hereafter of America’s Alliances,” is forthcoming with Harvard University Press. Her second, “The Day After Trump: The Future of American Strategy and the International Order,” co-authored with Rebecca Lissner, is forthcoming with Yale.

Graham Allison is the Douglas Dillon Professor of Government at Harvard University where he has taught for five decades. Allison is a leading analyst of national security with special interests in nuclear weapons, Russia, China and decision-making. Allison was the founding dean of Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and until 2017, served as director of its Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs which is ranked the “#1 University Affiliated Think Tank” in the world.

As Assistant Secretary of Defense under President Clinton and Special Advisor to the Secretary of Defense under President Reagan, he has been a member of the Secretary of Defense’s Advisory Board for every Secretary from Weinberger to Mattis. He has the sole distinction of having twice been awarded the Distinguished Public Service Medal, first by Secretary Cap Weinberger and second by Secretary Bill Perry. Jessica Chen Weiss is the Michael J. Zak Professor for China and Asia-Pacific Studies in the Government Department at Cornell University, a political science editor at the Washington Post Monkey Cage blog and a nonresident Senior Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. She served as senior advisor to the Secretary's Policy Planning Staff at the U.S. State Department on a Council on Foreign Relations Fellowship for Tenured International Relations Scholars (2021-2022).

Weiss is the author of “Powerful Patriots: Nationalist Protest in China’s Foreign Relations.” Her research appears in International Organization, China Quarterly, International Studies Quarterly, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Security Studies, Journal of Contemporary China and Review of International Political Economy, as well as in the New York Times, Foreign Affairs, Los Angeles Times and Washington Quarterly.

Weiss was previously an assistant professor at Yale University and founded FACES, the Forum for American/Chinese Exchange at Stanford University. She received her Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego in 2008, where her dissertation won the 2009 American Political Science Association Award for best dissertation in international relations, law and politics. Weiss is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Li Lu is the founder and chairman of Himalaya Capital, a value investing firm, where he has been managing its principal fund since 1997. Born in China, Li Lu attended Columbia University, where he received his B.A., JD and MBA simultaneously. He is a trustee of Columbia University and a trustee of the California Institute of Technology. Among his various philanthropic pursuits, Li Lu co-founded and is board chair of The Asian American Foundation (TAAF), serving the 23 million people in the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community in their pursuit of belonging and prosperity, free from discrimination, slander and violence. He also co-founded the Guardians of the Angeles Charitable Foundation (GoA) to combat the global COVID-19 crisis and now serves as the foundation’s board chair. Li Lu is the author of “Civilization, Modernization, Value Investing and China” and “Moving the Mountain: My Life in China.” Li Lu is a member of The Council on Foreign Relations and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2020.

Xue Lan is the current dean of Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University. From 2008 to 2018, Xue served as dean of the School of Public Policy and Management at Tsinghua University.

Xue is also serves as the current executive vice president of the Development Research Academy for the 21st Century, director of the China Institute for Science and Technology Policy at Tsinghua University, an adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon University and a nonresident senior fellow of the Brookings Institution. He is noted for both his positions on many research and educational councils as well as his work in science, technology and innovation policy. Xue taught at George Washington University until 2006, when he started teaching at Tsinghua University.

Admiral Cecil D. Haney completed 38 years of distinguished service in the United States Navy before retiring in 2017. As a four-star Admiral, this career submariner commanded the U.S. Strategic Command responsible for strategic capabilities involving nuclear weapons, missile defense, space and cyberspace and the U.S. Pacific Fleet responsible for the manning, operations and maintenance of the U.S. Navy fleet located in the Pacific and Indian oceans.

Haney now serves on the John Hopkins University Applied Physics Board of Managers, the Naval Studies Board, the Center for a New American Security Board of Directors, the Senior Advisory Council for Aerospace’s Center for Space Policy and Strategy, the General Dynamics Board of Directors and the Systems Planning and Analysis Inc. Board of Directors. Working with the Institute for Defense Analysis, he also serves as a mentor for the Bush Fellows Research Study Team that includes distinguished university faculty and staff scientists in support of the Secretary of Defense’s Office of Basic Research.

Xiang Bing is the founding dean and professor of China business and globalization at Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB). Prior to joining CKGSB, Xiang was a professor at Peking University’s Guanghua School of Management, where he pioneered the school’s executive MBA program. He was also one of the seven founding faculty members of China Europe International Business School in Shanghai.

Xiang’s research interests include reform of state-owned enterprises, innovation and the role of the private sector in China. He is a leading authority on China business, innovations in China, globalization of Chinese companies, China’s development models and global implications of China’s transformation. His writings and cases on these subjects are considered among the most influential in China.

Xiang has served as a keynote speaker at many influential forums and conferences around the world, including the World Economic Forum. He has also trained senior executives of companies in China and globally.

Jude Blanchette holds the Freeman Chair in China Studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Previously, he was engagement director at The Conference Board’s China Center for Economics and Business in Beijing, where he researched China’s political environment with a focus on the workings of the Communist Party of China and its impact on foreign companies and investors. His book, "China’s New Red Guards: The Return of Radicalism and the Rebirth of Mao Zedong," was published by Oxford University Press in 2019. Blanchette is a public intellectual fellow at the National Committee on United States-China Relations and serves on the board of the American Mandarin Society.

Sheena Chestnut Greitens is an associate professor at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. She directs UT's Asia Policy Program, a joint initiative of the Strauss Center for International Security & Law and the Clements Center for National Security. She is also concurrently a Jeane Kirkpatrick Visiting Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI). Her research focuses on national security, East Asia and authoritarian politics and foreign policy. She is finishing a book on internal security and Chinese grand strategy.

Zack Cooper is a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and co-director of the Alliance for Securing Democracy. Cooper also teaches at Princeton University, is a partner with Armitage International and co-hosts the Net Assessment podcast for War on the Rocks. He previously served on staff at the Pentagon and White House. He has also conducted research at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments.

Caroline Freund is dean of UC San Diego’s School of Global Policy and Strategy and an expert in international trade and economic development. Prior to joining GPS as dean, she served as global director of Trade, Investment and Competitiveness at the World Bank.

Freund also served as a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. In addition, she has worked as chief economist for the Middle East and North Africa at the World Bank. Freund began her career in the international finance division of the Federal Reserve Board and spent a year visiting the research department of the IMF.

The author of “Rich People Poor Countries: The Rise of Emerging Market Tycoons and their Mega Firms,” Freund was co-director of the World Bank’s flagship World Development Report 2020 on Global Value Chains. She has also published many articles on the effects of regional trade agreements and edited a volume on “The WTO and Reciprocal Preferential Trading Agreements.” Her work has appeared in academic journals, including American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of International Economics and Journal of Development Economics.

Jason Furman is the Aetna Professor of the Practice of Economic Policy jointly at Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) and the Department of Economics at Harvard University. He is also nonresident senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. This followed eight years as a top economic adviser to President Obama, including serving as the 28th Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers from August 2013 to January 2017, acting as both President Obama’s chief economist and a member of the cabinet. During this time Furman played a major role in most of the major economic policies of the Obama administration. Previously Furman held a variety of posts in public policy and research. In public policy, Furman worked at both the Council of Economic Advisers and National Economic Council during the Clinton administration and also at the World Bank. In research, Furman was a Director of the Hamilton Project and Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution and also has served in visiting positions at various universities, including NYU’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Policy.

James “Jimmy” Goodrich is vice president for global policy at the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). In this role, Goodrich leads SIA’s global policy team and works to advance SIA’s international competitiveness, trade, supply chain and China policy agenda.

An expert in Chinese technology and innovation, Goodrich is a member of the Executive Committee for Beijing-based United States Information Technology Office (USITO), representing SIA in his capacity. He has a diverse background in Chinese technology policy issues. Previously he was director of China policy at the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) in Washington D.C.

Before moving to Washington D.C. in 2012, Goodrich spent a total of seven years working in the tech sector in China, including for Cisco Systems, APCO Worldwide and USITO. Goodrich has a bachelor’s degree in comparative politics and East Asian studies from Ohio University. He is professionally fluent in Mandarin and serves on the board of directors of the American Mandarin Society, which promotes mandarin-language study for young Americans.

Jonathan Graham is executive vice president, general counsel and secretary, responsible for leading Amgen's global Law function. Before joining Amgen in 2015, Graham was senior vice president and general counsel at Danaher Corporation. He was responsible for all legal, governance, regulatory, risk, compliance and EH&S matters. Prior to joining Danaher, Graham was vice president of Litigation and Legal Policy at General Electric Company and a partner at Williams & Connolly LLP in Washington, D.C. Graham received his bachelor's degree in Economics from Pitzer College and a J.D. from the University of Texas. He also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Joseph T. Sneed, U.S. Court of Appeals.

Paul Haenle holds the Maurice R. Greenberg Director’s Chair at Carnegie China and is currently based in Singapore as a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the East Asian Institute, National University of Singapore. Since 2018, Haenle has served on the board of directors of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations. In addition to his role at Carnegie, Haenle is also Chairman, Asia Pacific Region, at the global CEO advisory firm Teneo and a senior advisor at Rice, Hadley, Gates & Manuel LLC where he assists U.S. and foreign businesses with their cross-border business strategy, including the development of key government relationships, crisis management, and public relations.

Prior to joining Carnegie, he served as the White House China director on the National Security Council under former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. From June 2007 to January 2009, Haenle also played a key role as the White House representative to the U.S. negotiating team at the six-party-talks nuclear negotiations. Beginning in 2004, Haenle served three years in the West Wing as executive assistant to the President’s national security advisor.

Tanvi Madan is a senior fellow in the Foreign Policy program, and director of The India Project at the Brookings Institution. Her work explores India’s role in the world and its foreign policy, focusing in particular on India's relations with China and the U.S., and its approach in the Indo-Pacific.

Madan is the author of the book "Fateful Triangle: How China Shaped U.S.-India Relations During the Cold War" (Brookings Institution Press, 2020). Her ongoing work includes a book project on the recent past, present and future of the China-India-U.S. triangle. Madan is a member of the editorial board of Asia Policy, a contributing editor at War on the Rocks, and a member of the Australian National University’s National Security College’s Futures Council. Previously, she was a Harrington doctoral fellow and teaching assistant at the University of Texas at Austin, a research analyst at Brookings and has worked in the information technology industry in India. She has a Ph.D. from UT-Austin, an M.A. from Yale University and a B.A. from Delhi University.

James McGregor is Greater China Chairman for APCO Worldwide where he serves as a senior advisor on China business, political and communications strategies. He is also the author of two highly regarded books: “No Ancient Wisdom, No Followers: The Challenges of Chinese Authoritarian Capitalism”; and “One Billion Customers: Lessons from the Front Lines of Doing Business in China”. McGregor was bureau chief in Taipei and Beijing for The Wall Street Journal before becoming CEO of Dow Jones in China. He later founded a China-focused research and advisory firm for hedge funds. McGregor is a past chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in China. He is a U.S. Army veteran who served as an infantryman in Vietnam. He lived in China for 30 years before returning to the U.S. in 2020 due to COVID restrictions.

Ellen Nakashima is a national security reporter for The Washington Post who writes about geostrategic competition and the intersection of technology with national and economic security. She has explored concerns with China’s growing partnership with Russia, its strategic weapons build-up, and U.S. policy towards China as it seeks to contest the west's dominance in key areas. She has covered cyber operations from the Bush to Biden administrations, and foreign malign cyber activities, including revealing the Russian hack of the DNC and the Russian SVR's hand behind the SolarWinds campaign. She has been part of three different Post teams that have won Pulitzer Prizes. In 2022, for an investigation of the security failures that contributed to the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, in 2018 for examining Moscow’s efforts to influence the 2016 election and in 2014 for reporting on the hidden scope of National Security Agency surveillance. She has also reported from Southeast Asia, the White House and the Virginia legislature. She joined The Post in 1995.

Joseph S. Nye, Jr. is University Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus and former Dean of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. He received his bachelor's degree summa cum laude from Princeton University, won a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford and earned a Ph.D. in political science from Harvard. He has served as Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, Chair of the National Intelligence Council and a Deputy Under Secretary of State, and won distinguished service awards from all three agencies. His books include “The Future of Power, The Power Game: A Washington Novel”, and “Do Morals Matter?” He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the British Academy and the American Academy of Diplomacy. In a recent survey of international relations scholars, he was ranked as the most influential scholar on American foreign policy, and in 2011, Foreign Policy named him one of the top 100 Global Thinkers. In 2014, Japan awarded him the Order of the Rising Sun.

Matthew Pottinger is a distinguished visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution and chairman of the China program at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. Pottinger served four years in senior roles at the National Security Council, including as Deputy National Security Advisor from 2019 to 2021. Pottinger spent the late 1990s and early 2000s in China as a reporter for Reuters and The Wall Street Journal. He later fought in Iraq and Afghanistan as a U.S. Marine. Following active duty, Pottinger ran Asia research at Davidson Kempner Capital Management, a multi-strategy investment fund based in New York City.

Alex Rogers is president of Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL) and Global Affairs. As the head of the company’s licensing business, Rogers is responsible for the strategic direction and oversight of QTL, including the management of all day-to-day operations and has responsibility for the IP Department, including the patent, copyright and trademark practice groups. As head of Global Affairs, Rogers is responsible for government affairs, public affairs, export compliance and corporate responsibility.

Rogers has led QTL since 2016, managing intellectual property, regulatory and commercial matters, as well as ensuring continued growth and monetization of QTL’s existing and future licensing programs through negotiation of significant licensing agreements. He is a member of Qualcomm’s Executive Committee and reports directly to Qualcomm president and chief executive officer Cristiano Amon. Prior to joining Qualcomm, Rogers was a partner with the law firm of Gray, Cary, Ware & Friedenrich (now DLA Piper), specializing in intellectual property litigation for various technology companies.

Rogers holds M.A. and B.A. degrees in English Literature from Georgetown University and a J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center. He also studied for one year at the Hebrew University in Israel and taught history and literature in Washington, D.C. for four years. Rogers currently sits on the Georgetown University Law Center Board of Visitors.

Admiral Gary Roughead, U.S. Navy (Ret.), is the Robert and Marion Oster Distinguished Military Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. Admiral Roughead is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy whose naval career culminated in serving as the chief of naval operations, the senior officer in the U.S. Navy. In that role, he was a member of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff. Prior to that, he held six operational commands and is one of only two officers in the navy’s history to have commanded both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets.

Admiral Roughead serves on the boards of the Northrop Grumman Corporation, Maersk Line Ltd., and the Marinette Marine Corporation; is a trustee of Dodge and Cox Funds and of Johns Hopkins University; chairs the National Academy of Sciences Naval Studies Board; and advises the University of Haifa Maritime Center.

He co-chaired the congressionally appointed commission that reviewed the Trump administration’s National Defense Strategy, co-chaired a Council on Foreign Relations task force addressing America’s response to China’s One Belt One Road initiative and remains active in nongovernmental policy fora with Japan and China.

Lingling Wei is the award-winning chief China correspondent for The Wall Street Journal and coauthor of "Superpower Showdown," a history of the U.S.-China trade and economic stand-off. Hailing from a farm province in southeastern China, she came of age as a journalist in New York in the early 2000s and returned to China in early 2011 to report on changes in her homeland. From then until 2020, when China expelled Journal reporters including Lingling, she had covered all aspects of China's economy, its opaque policy-making process and key decision-makers. Over the years she has won many awards for her China coverage. Currently living in New York, Lingling continues to focus on the intersection of the Chinese economy and politics. She's among a team of reporters and editors whose work was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2021.

Edward Wong is a diplomatic correspondent for The New York Times, who is writing a book on China and reports on foreign policy from Washington. He has spent most of his career as a foreign correspondent, reporting for 13 years from China and Iraq for The Times. As Beijing bureau chief, he ran The Times’s largest overseas operation. He has filed dispatches from dozens of countries, including North Korea, Afghanistan and Myanmar.

Wong is a fellow at the Wilson Center and at Harvard Kennedy School's Future of Diplomacy Project in the Belfer Center. He was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard from 2017 to 2018 and taught international reporting at Princeton as a Ferris Professor of Journalism in 2017. Wong has appeared regularly on CBS News’ "Face the Nation," PBS NewsHour, NPR, BBC, CBC and ARTE. He received a Livingston Award for his coverage of the Iraq War and was on a team from The Times’s Baghdad Bureau that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in international reporting. He graduated with honors from the University of Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in English and has joint master’s degrees in journalism and international studies from UC Berkeley.

United States Senator Dan Sullivan represents the State of Alaska, and serves on four Senate committees: the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee; the Armed Services Committee; the Environment and Public Works Committee; and the Veterans' Affairs Committee.

Prior to his election to the U.S. Senate, Sullivan served as Alaska’s attorney general and commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources. During his tenure as attorney general, he spearheaded a comprehensive statewide strategy to combat Alaska’s high rates of domestic violence and sexual assault. As commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Sullivan managed one of the largest portfolios of oil, gas, minerals, renewable energy, timber, land and water in the world.

Sullivan has a distinguished record of military and national security service. He is currently a colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Sullivan also served in the George W. Bush administration as the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Business under Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Sullivan also served as a director in the International Economics Directorate of the National Security Council.

Sullivan earned a B.A. in Economics from Harvard University in 1987 and a joint law and Masters of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University in 1993.

Shelley Rigger is the Brown Professor of East Asian Politics at Davidson College. She has been a Fulbright scholar at National Taiwan University and a visiting scholar at universities in Taiwan and the PRC. Rigger is the author of two academic books on Taiwan’s domestic politics and two books for general readers, "Why Taiwan Matters: Small Island, Global Powerhouse" (2011) and "The Tiger Leading the Dragon: How Taiwan Propelled China’s Economic Rise" (2021).

Ami Bera, M.D., has represented California’s 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2013. The 7th district is located just east of California’s capitol city, Sacramento, and lies entirely within Sacramento County.

Bera is currently a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where he serves as chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, Central Asia and Nonproliferation. He is also a senior member on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. Bera is also vice chair for outreach for the New Democrat Coalition, a group of over 100 forward-thinking Democrats who are committed to pro-economic growth, pro-innovation and fiscally responsible policies.

As a first-generation American born and raised in California, Bera earned both his B.S. and M.D. from UC Irvine. During Bera's 21-year medical career, he worked to improve the availability, quality and affordability of healthcare. He served as Sacramento County’s chief medical officer. He then moved into education, working as clinical professor of medicine and associate dean for admissions and outreach at UC Davis. Bera is the longest-serving Indian American in Congress.

Yanzhong Huang is a senior fellow for global health at the Council on Foreign Relations, where he directs the Global Health Governance roundtable series. He is also a professor and director of global health studies at Seton Hall University's School of Diplomacy and International Relations, where he developed the first academic concentration among U.S. professional international affairs schools that explicitly addresses the security and foreign policy aspects of health issues. He is the founding editor of Global Health Governance: The Scholarly Journal for the New Health Security Paradigm.

Victor Shih is the director of 21st Century China Center and Ho Miu Lam Chair and Pacific Relations at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy specializing in China. Shih served as principal in The Carlyle Group’s global market strategy group and continues to advise the financial community on China related issues.

He is the author of two books titled “Factions and Finance in China: Elite Conflict and Inflation” and “Coalitions of the Weak: Elite Politics in China from Mao’s Stratagem to the Rise of Xi.” He is also editor of “Economic Shocks and Authoritarian Stability: Duration, Institutions and Financial Conditions.” This book uses comparative cases to explore how authoritarian regimes respond to economic crises. He is further the author of numerous articles appearing in academic and business journals, including The American Political Science Review, Comparative Political Studies, Journal of Politics and The Wall Street Journal. He is currently working on several papers using quantitative data to analyze the Chinese political elite and China’s defense industry.

Robert Work was the 32nd Deputy Secretary of Defense from 2014 to 2017. In 2001, he retired as a colonel in the United States Marine Corps after 27 years on active duty. He subsequently was a senior fellow and then vice president and director of studies at the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments (CSBA).

In 2009, he was confirmed as the 31st Under Secretary of the Navy in the first Obama administration. In 2013, he became the Chief Executive Officer for the Center for a New American Security (CNAS). He then assumed the role of Deputy Secretary of Defense in 2014.

Currently, he is the president and owner of TeamWork, LLC, which specializes in defense strategy and policy, programming and budgeting, military-technical competitions, revolutions in war and the future of war. He most recently was co-chair of the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence.

Work holds a B.S. from the University of Illinois, an M.S. from the University of Southern California, an M.S. from the Naval Postgraduate School and an M.I.P.P. from the Johns Hopkins University. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the International Institute of Strategic Studies.

Craig Allen currently serves as the President of the U.S.-China Business Council (USCBC) in Washington, D.C. USCBC was founded in 1973 and is comprised of some 265 American companies that do business in China. Prior to joining USCBC, Allen was a career U.S. diplomat for 33 years, serving six tours focused on China. He retired from the U.S. Foreign Service after serving as U.S. Ambassador in Brunei. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Georgetown University.

Laura Rosenberger is the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), a nonprofit, private corporation established pursuant to the Taiwan Relations Act to manage the U.S. unofficial relationship with Taiwan.

Rosenberger has nearly two decades of deep, high-level experience on the Indo-Pacific, both in and out of government, including on Taiwan, China, cross-Strait and broader national security issues. Prior to her appoint to the AIT in March 2023, she worked as special assistant to the President and senior director for China and Taiwan on the National Security Council (NSC) at the White House, where she advised the President and National Security Advisor on all matters related to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and Taiwan, led development of the Biden Administration’s China Strategy, developed strategies to responsibly manage U.S.-PRC competition, and led the broadening and deepening of U.S. unofficial relations with Taiwan. Outside of government, Rosenberger founded and served as director of the Alliance for Securing Democracy and as a Senior Fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF), where she focused on strategies to counter authoritarian threats to democracies.

Michael J. Green is SVP for Asia, Japan Chair, and Henry A. Kissinger Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and director of Asian Studies at the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. He served on the staff of the National Security Council (2001-2005), as director for Asian affairs with responsibility for Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand, and then as special assistant to the president for national security affairs and senior director for Asia, with responsibility for East Asia and South Asia.

He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Aspen Strategy Group, the America Australia Leadership Dialogue, the advisory boards of Radio Free Asia and CNAS, and the editorial boards of the Washington Quarterly and the Journal of Unification Studies in Korea. He also serves as a trustee at the Asia Foundation, senior adviser at the Asia Group and associate of the U.S. Intelligence Community. He received his master’s and doctoral degrees from SAIS and did additional graduate and postgraduate research at Tokyo University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received his bachelor’s degree in history from Kenyon College with highest honors.

Daniel H. Rosen is a Founding Partner of Rhodium Group and leads the firm’s work on China, India and Asia. Mr. Rosen has twenty-nine years of professional experience analyzing China’s economy, commercial sector, and external interactions. He is widely recognized for his contributions on the U.S.-China economic relationship. He is affiliated with a number of American think tanks focused on international economics and is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia University. From 2000-2001, Rosen was Senior Adviser for International Economic Policy at the White House National Economic Council and National Security Council. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and board member of the National Committee on US-China Relations. A native of New York City, Rosen graduated with distinction from the graduate School of Foreign Service of Georgetown University (MSFS) and with honors in Asian Studies and Economics from the University of Texas, Austin (B.A.).

Laura Updegrove is the Chief of Staff to the Counselor to the U.S. Secretary of State. She previously served as the Legislative Director and Senior Foreign Policy Advisor to Senator Jeff Merkley, leading his work on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Laura joined the Merkley's team after serving eight years in the Obama administration, including positions working on the Middle East at the Department of Defense, as an advisor to the Chief of Staff’s office at the White House, and as a Special Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of State at the State Department.

Laura is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara and studied international relations.

Chris Coons has served as a U.S. Senator from Delaware since 2010. He sits on the Foreign Relations, Appropriations, Judiciary, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and Ethics Committees. He is currently the Chair of the Appropriations subcommittee that funds U.S. foreign assistance.

Coons has used his position on the Foreign Relations Committee to advocate for key foreign policy and national security priorities. Coons previously worked as an attorney for a Delaware-based manufacturing company, using his legal expertise to direct regulatory and international efforts. Coons graduated from Amherst College with a B.A. in chemistry and political science, and earned his law degree from Yale Law School and a master's in ethics from Yale Divinity School. Coons lives in Wilmington with his wife, Annie, and their three children, Michael, Jack, and Maggie.

Jeremie O. Waterman is president of the China Center and vice president for Greater China at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Waterman is responsible for developing and executing chamber policy initiatives in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Mongolia as well as steering the chamber’s policy work in the Asia-Pacific region. In carrying out the chamber’s Greater China agenda, Waterman directs its trade and investment policy advocacy and initiatives in the areas of investment, innovation, intellectual property rights, financial services, agriculture, energy and environment, health care, and corporate governance and social responsibility. Waterman has pioneered several chamber business initiatives focused on China, such as the U.S.-China CEO Dialogue and the newly created China Center. He is frequently quoted in the media on a broad range of China issues relating to international business and trade policy and is a periodic guest on news programs.

Before joining the Chamber, Waterman worked for five years at the U.S.-China Business Council as director for government affairs. He also served at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative in the offices of Congressional Affairs and Africa. Waterman received a master’s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in Boston and is a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles. He and his wife have two children.

Chad P. Bown is the Reginald Jones Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington, D.C. He hosts Trade Talks, a podcast about the economics of international trade and policy. His popular writing has appeared in The New York Times, Foreign Affairs, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Foreign Policy, Harvard Business Review and more. Bown served as Senior Economist for International Trade and Investment in the White House on the President’s Council of Economic Advisers during 2010-2011. He has spent a year in residence as a visiting scholar in Economic Research at the World Trade Organization (WTO) Secretariat in Geneva, and most recently he was a lead economist at the World Bank, where he conducted research and advised governments in developing countries on international trade policy. He is formerly a tenured professor of economics at Brandeis University, where he began his career and was on the faculty for 12 years. Bown received a B.A. magna cum laude in economics and international relations from Bucknell University and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Amy Celico is a principal at the global strategic advisory firm Dentons Global Advisors-Albright Stonebridge Group (ASG), where she leads the firm’s China practice in Washington, D.C. In this role, she advises corporate and nonprofit clients on their business and policy interests in the China market, including navigating geopolitical, regulatory and reputational developments with the potential to impact global business and investment decisions. Celico also serves on the board of directors of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations and regularly speaks to business and investor groups about China’s evolving economic priorities and the environment for foreign investors.

Prior to joining ASG in 2007, Celico served as Senior Director for China Affairs at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative; Deputy Director of the Office of the Chinese Economic Area at the U.S. Department of Commerce and head of Trade Facilitation Office at U.S. Embassy Beijing; and at the U.S. Department of State as an intelligence analyst in the Bureau of Research and Intelligence and Vice Consul for economic affairs at the U.S. Consulate in Shanghai.

Michael Davidson is an assistant professor with a joint appointment at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy and the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, where he leads the Power Transformation Lab. Davidson’s teaching and research focus on the engineering implications and institutional conflicts inherent in deploying low-carbon energy at scale to mitigate environmental harms, specializing in applications to China, India and the U.S. Michael holds a Ph.D. in engineering systems, an S.M. in technology and policy from MIT, and a B.S. in mathematics and physics and a B.A. in Japanese studies from Case Western Reserve University. He has held a postdoctoral fellowship at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs and received a Fulbright Fellowship to Tsinghua University.

Steve Del Rosso is Senior Director of the International Peace and Security Program at the Carnegie Corporation of New York, where he oversees grantmaking across the program with direct responsibility for subprograms on Asian security, peacebuilding in Africa, bridging the academic-policy gap, Track II with Iran and North Korea, and quantum and international relations. Previously, he was Director of Programs at the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations and managed The Pew Charitable Trusts’ Global Security Program. Del Rosso served a decade in the U.S. Foreign Service, with overseas assignments in Central America and the Caribbean, and in Washington, D.C., in the Operations Center and as staff officer to Secretary of State George Shultz, among other assignments. He was also a Presidential Management Fellow at NASA, news producer at Voice of America, and staff assistant to a British Member of Parliament. Del Rosso holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Pennsylvania; a M.A.L.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, where he was an Earhart Fellow; a diploma in international studies from the Bologna Center of Johns Hopkins SAIS; and a B.A. from Tufts University.

Karl Eikenberry is the Johnson & Johnson Visiting Faculty Chair in Leadership at Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China where he has taught and lectured since 2017. He is a former U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan (2009-2011) and served for 35 years in the U.S. Army retiring as a lieutenant general. His military service included assignments with combat units in the U.S., Korea, Italy and Afghanistan. He was the Deputy Chairman of the NATO Military Committee in Brussels; Director for Strategic Planning and Policy for U.S. Pacific Command in Hawaii; and Defense Attaché at the American Embassy Beijing.

He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy, earned master’s degrees from Harvard and Stanford Universities, and was awarded an Interpreter’s Certificate in Mandarin Chinese from the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office after graduating from the U.K. Ministry of Defence Chinese Language School in Hong Kong. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and board member of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, The Asia Foundation, and American Councils for International Education.

Brett Fetterly is a Vice President at The Asia Group, working in the firm’s China practice. A U.S. legislative expert, Brett advises leading multinationals on navigating business opportunities and challenges at the intersection of technology, national security, and commerce.

Prior to joining The Asia Group, Brett served in the U.S. Senate as the National Security Advisor to Senator Ben Sasse (R-Nebraska) from 2017 to 2022. During that time, Brett was the principal advisor on all foreign, defense and national security policy issues for Sen. Sasse.

Prior to joining the Senate in 2017, Brett served in various policy positions in the U.S. government and politics. His experience includes serving as a policy advisor at the U.S. Department of Energy, interim director of operations at the John Hay Initiative, senior foreign policy analyst at the Republican National Committee, and the foreign and defense policy director for a 2016 presidential campaign.

Brett is a graduate of the Strategic Studies program at the Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). Before attending SAIS, Brett lived in Beijing and received his B.A. from Regis University in Denver, where he majored in politics and played NCAA Division II college basketball.

Michael Froman is president of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). He previously served as vice chairman and president, strategic growth, at Mastercard, chairman of the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth, a distinguished fellow at CFR and a resident fellow at the German Marshall Fund.

Froman served in President Barack Obama’s cabinet as the U.S. trade representative from June 2013 to January 2017. From January 2009 to June 2013, Froman served at the White House as assistant to the president and deputy national security advisor for international economic affairs. Prior to joining the Obama administration, Froman served in a number of roles at Citigroup, including as CEO of its international insurance and alternative investments businesses. In the 1990s, Froman spent seven years in the U.S. government as chief of staff and deputy assistant secretary for Eurasia and the Middle East at the U.S. Department of Treasury. He also worked at the White House, where he served as a director for international economic affairs at the National Security Council and National Economic Council.

Joan Kaufman, Sc.D., is the Senior Director for Academic Programs at Schwarzman Scholars, a lecturer in Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and a visiting professor at Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University. A public health and China expert, she has lived and worked in China for 15 years since 1980 for the United Nations, the Ford Foundation, the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative and Columbia University. Prior to joining Schwarzman Scholars, she was the director of Columbia University’s Global Center for East Asia (Beijing) and associate professor of health policy and management at Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health. In 2002, she founded and directed (for a decade) the AIDS Public Policy Project at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, working in both China and Vietnam. She was a Distinguished Scientist at Brandeis University’s Heller School for Social Policy and Management from 2003-2012, Radcliffe Fellow at Harvard from 2001-2002 and a Soros Reproductive Health and Rights Fellow in 2005. Her publications cover global health policy, HIV/AIDS, women’s rights, reproductive health, population, emerging infectious diseases and civil society, with a focus on China. She is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Scott Kennedy is a senior adviser and Trustee Chair in Chinese Business and Economics at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). A leading authority on Chinese economic policy, his specific areas of expertise include: industrial policy, technology innovation, business lobbying, U.S.-China commercial relations and global governance. From 2000-2014, Kennedy was a professor at Indiana University (IU), where he established the Research Center for Chinese Politics & Business and was the founding academic director of IU’s China Office.

Tanvi Madan is a senior fellow in the Foreign Policy program and director of The India Project at the Brookings Institution. Her work explores India’s role in the world and its foreign policy, focusing in particular on India's relations with China and the U.S. She also researches the U.S. and India’s approaches in the Indo-Pacific, as well as the development of interest-based coalitions, especially the Quad. Madan is the author of “Fateful Triangle: How China Shaped U.S.-India Relations During the Cold War.” Her ongoing work includes a book project on the recent past, present and future of the China-India-U.S. triangle and policy briefs on India-Russia relations and India’s economic security approach. Madan is a member of the editorial board of Asia Policy and a contributing editor at War on the Rocks. Previously, Madan was a Harrington Doctoral Fellow and teaching assistant at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to that, she was a research analyst at Brookings and also worked in the information technology industry in India. Madan has a Ph.D. from UT-Austin, an M.A. from Yale University and a B.A. from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University.

Michael Pettis is a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment and a finance professor at Peking University, where he has been teaching for 20 years. Prior to moving to China, he worked on Wall Street running trade and capital markets desks specializing in Latin America. His most recent book is “Trade Wars are Class Wars.”

Sarotte holds the Kravis Distinguished Professorship of Historical Studies at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, D.C. Her six books include “Not One Inch: America, Russia, and the Making of Post-Cold War Stalemate,” which won the Pushkin House Prize (2022) and the Arthur Ross Prize (2022, Silver Medal) and was shortlisted for the Cundill Prize and Duke of Westminster’s Medal (both 2022). Two of her previous books, “1989: The Struggle to Create Post-Cold War Europe” (2009) and “The Collapse: The Accidental Opening of the Berlin Wall” (2014), were named Financial Times Books of the Year (2009 and 2014) and The Economist Book of the Year (2014), among receiving other recognitions. Sarotte earned her A.B. in history and science at Harvard University and her Ph.D. in history at Yale University. After graduate school, she served as a White House Fellow and subsequently joined the faculty of the University of Cambridge; she received tenure there in 2004 before returning to the U.S. Sarotte is a former Humboldt Scholar, a former member of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, an associate of the Harvard Center for European Studies and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Amy Stursberg is chair of the board of the Blackstone Charitable Foundation and CEO of Schwarzman Scholars and the Stephen A. Schwarzman Education Foundation. She previously served on the transition team for the former governor of New York. From 2006-2008, Stursberg managed the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation’s $90 million program in cultural and community grants in Lower Manhattan. Previously, Stursberg served as the final director of the September 11th Fund. She has held various positions at the Office of Management and Budget at the Office of the Mayor in New York City, as well as at the Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C.

Yeling Tan is an assistant professor of political science at the University of Oregon. She is also a non-resident senior fellow at the Peterson Institute of International Economics and a non-resident scholar at UC San Diego's 21st Century China Center. Her research focuses on the international and comparative political economy of China.

Andrew Tilton is chief Asia-Pacific economist and head of Emerging Markets (EM) Economic Research at Goldman Sachs. He coordinates regional and global EM economics research publications and writes on issues including China’s economy, U.S.-China economic relations and the broader Asia-Pacific macro outlook. The Asia-Pacific economics team has won awards for forecasting accuracy from Focus Economics, including Best Economic Forecaster for China in 2021, and Bloomberg. Tilton relocated to Hong Kong in 2012 from the U.S. economics team in New York, which received awards from The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and Blue Chip Economic Indicators for forecast accuracy. Tilton joined Goldman Sachs in 2003 and was named managing director in 2009 and partner in 2016.

Prior to joining the firm, Tilton was a manager at McKinsey & Company, a research economist at the McKinsey Global Institute and served as senior advisor to the Office of International Affairs in the U.S. Treasury. Tilton earned degrees in economics from Stanford University and the London School of Economics.

Sue Gordon is currently the Director at CACI International. She served as Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence until August 2019. A longtime member of the Intelligence Community, she has nearly three decades of intelligence experience. As PDDNI, she managed the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and focused on advancing intelligence integration across the Intelligence Community. Earlier, she was Deputy Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) where she drove NGA’s transformation to meet the challenges of a 21st century intelligence agency. Gordon has worked in a variety of leadership roles spanning numerous intelligence organizations and disciplines. Prior to her assignment with NGA, she served for 27 years at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), rising to senior executive positions in each of the Agency’s four directorates: operations, analysis, science and technology, and support.

Joseph Webster is a senior fellow at The Atlantic Council’s Global Energy Center and edits The China-Russia Report, an independent, non-partisan newsletter. He works at the intersection of energy and geopolitics, focusing on Chinese natural gas imports, Chinese solar exports, and offshore wind in the Indo-Pacific. His analysis has appeared in Axios, EnergyPost, The Houston Chronicle, The Globe and Mail, Politico and Politico Europe, inter alia.

Kevin Wolf is a senior partner in the international trade group of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, where he provides advice and counsel regarding export control compliance and related issues. Kevin was the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Administration from 2010-2017, where he was responsible for administering U.S. dual-use export control regulations and policy. He was one of the primary drafters and implementers of the Obama Administration’s Export Control Reform effort, which significantly modified U.S. defense trade controls involving allied countries. He was also one of the primary Commerce Department representatives to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).

Erik Quam is the Director of China Strategic Focus Group (C-SFG) at U.S. Indo-Pacific Command. Prior to moving to USINDOPACOM, Quam served with the U.S. Department of State for 12 years. While in the State Department, he served on the Secretary’s Policy Planning Staff covering China and Taiwan issues from July 2020 to March 2022. In the Office of Policy Coordination in the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation (ISN/PC) from 2010-2020, Quam served as a senior advisor on nonproliferation, regional security and emerging technology issues, the East Asia Team Chief, and as the lead-officer in ISN/PC for China. Prior to joining the State Department, Quam served as a China analyst at the Defense Intelligence Agency from 2007 to 2010.

Jennifer Hendrixson White is a senior member of the Democratic Staff on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee where she serves as the principal advisor to the Chairman on matters relating to China, the Indo-Pacific region, Afghanistan and Pakistan, and cyber security and emerging technologies. She previously served as a senior policy advisor to Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, in her capacity as a member of President Biden’s national security cabinet. Based in Washington, Jennifer represented the U.S. Mission to the United Nations (USUN) in interagency policy discussions on a wide range of China, Indo-Pacific, Afghanistan and cyber and technology issues. Prior to USUN, she spent 6 years as a senior professional staff member for the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, where she was the principal adviser to the Chairman on matters relating to East Asia and the Pacific, and institutional oversight of the State Department and USAID. Prior to joining the Committee, Jennifer was Coordinator of the U.S.-China Strategic & Economic Dialogue at the Department of State, and previously held policy positions related to a range of East Asian multilateral fora, including Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the East Asia Summit (EAS), and the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).
